‘Take Notice: Amplifying Black Stories’ was created with the intent to connect, provide resources, and inspire personal growth. I grew up in predominantly rural areas of Western Washington and it wasn’t until I had the opportunity to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, where I participated in conversations around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, that I began to learn how much I didn’t know about the lived experiences of people of color.
My education on these topics began to deepen a few years later when I met my husband, a Black man raised in South Seattle. We had conversations about the many times he was mistreated in school and harassed by authorities because of the color of his skin. We have had countless talks about the issues surrounding his experiences and our shared experiences as a mixed-race couple. I soon began to seek out ways to educate myself further. Once you see, you cannot unsee.
Take Notice was created and released Fall 2020.
